Harms of Delaying Nikah and Reasons for Delay
Hakeemul ummat maulana ashraf ali thanvi rahmatullahi ta'ala said, "Many evils and harms have appeared due to not marrying off virgin girls soon after they reach maturity. Sometimes girls run away with someone, and even if this does not happen in a noble family, those girls curse their guardians in their hearts. And since they are oppressed, their curse does not go in vain. Because it comes in hadith, fear the curse of the oppressed because there is no barrier between him and haq ta'ala shanh."
*Reasons for delay*:
1. Delaying nikah while waiting for dowry.
2. Excuse of not finding a suitable match at the moment.
3. Mentally crafted qualities of a suitable son-in-law, like lineage, character, beauty, wealth etc.
Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam said, "When a boy is born to someone, he should give him a good name and teach him good manners, meaning teach him shariah rulings and manners, islamic ways of life, so that he becomes successful and honored in dunya and akhirah. Then when he reaches maturity, he should get him married. If the boy reaches maturity and does not have means for marriage expenses, and his father has the ability to bear the marriage expenses yet does not get him married, and then that boy falls into evil, the sin will be on the father." Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam said, "It is written in the torah that if a girl reaches 12 years of age, meaning maturity, and her guardian does not marry her off despite getting a suitable match, then if that girl falls into evil, meaning immorality etc, the sin is on her father."
