The Designer Niqab and the Purpose of Hijab

In today's world, modest fashion has become a growing trend. Beautiful abayas, stylish hijabs, elegant niqabs, and luxury accessories are widely available. While there is nothing wrong with wearing clean and attractive clothing within the limits of Islam, an important question deserves attention: Has the desire for fashion begun to overshadow the true purpose of the hijab?

The purpose of hijab is much deeper than appearance. It is an act of worship, a sign of obedience to Allah, and a means of protecting modesty. When a niqab or hijab becomes primarily a fashion statement designed to attract admiration, it is worth reflecting on whether its original purpose is being fulfilled.

The Real Meaning of Hijab

Hijab is not simply a piece of fabric. It represents humility, dignity, modesty, and devotion to Allah. A Muslim woman wears hijab because she wishes to obey her Creator, not because she seeks praise from people or recognition on social media.

True modesty begins in the heart and is reflected in one's behavior, speech, and clothing. The hijab serves as an outward expression of these inner values.

Beauty Within the Limits of Islam

Islam does not forbid cleanliness or neatness. Looking presentable and wearing decent clothing are encouraged. However, Islam also teaches moderation. Clothing should not become a means of showing off wealth, seeking attention, or competing with others.

If a niqab is decorated in a way that attracts unnecessary attention, it may conflict with the very wisdom behind wearing it. The goal of hijab is to reduce unnecessary attraction, not to increase it.

Fashion and the Influence of Society

Modern fashion trends change constantly. Social media often encourages people to follow the latest styles, brands, and designer products. This influence can sometimes affect the way Muslims view modest clothing.

Instead of asking, "Does this please Allah?" people may begin asking, "Will this get more likes?" or "Will people admire my style?" Such a shift in intention can gradually weaken the spiritual purpose of hijab.

Intention Matters

In Islam, actions are judged by intentions. Two women may wear similar niqabs, yet their intentions may be completely different. One may wear it sincerely to seek Allah's pleasure, while another may wear it mainly to impress others.

Only Allah knows what is in the hearts. Therefore, every believer should regularly examine their own intentions and strive to keep them sincere.

Modesty Is More Than Clothing

Wearing a hijab or niqab is important, but modesty extends beyond clothing. It includes respectful speech, good manners, honesty, humility, and kindness. A person who dresses modestly should also strive to reflect Islamic values through their character.

Likewise, people should avoid judging others solely by their appearance. Every Muslim is on a personal journey of faith and growth.

Finding the Right Balance

There is nothing wrong with wearing high-quality or well-made clothing if it remains within the boundaries of Islamic modesty. The key is balance. A believer should avoid extravagance, pride, and the desire to attract attention.

The best clothing is that which helps a person remember Allah, remain humble, and fulfill the purpose for which the hijab was prescribed.

Conclusion

The hijab is a symbol of faith before it is a symbol of fashion. A designer niqab may be beautiful, but its true value lies not in its price, brand, or appearance. Its greatest beauty is found in the sincerity of the one who wears it and in her desire to obey Allah.

As Muslims, we should remind ourselves that the purpose of hijab is modesty, dignity, and devotion. When these values remain at the center, the hijab becomes not only a garment but also a beautiful act of worship that brings a believer closer to Allah.

For many days it is being seen that nowadays niqabs have started becoming very designer.

Women have been commanded to observe purdah so that no one’s gaze falls on them, and even if it does, no attention is paid. But nowadays the kind of skin tight and tight burqas/niqabs that have come into fashion themselves invite people to look at women, and not just glance, but to observe them thoroughly from top to bottom and to assess the curves of the body, la haula wala quwwata illa billah hil aliyyil azeem.

After all, what has this fashion given us except humiliation? There was a time when there was only black color niqab and it was so loose from top to bottom that even a vile person, despite wanting to, could not assess the curves of that woman. Even her age could not be guessed, whether inside the burqa there was a young girl of 20-22 or an old woman of 60-65. But nowadays, uff, may Allah save us from those who walk adorned in such niqabs and burqas that run in the name of fashion, and now even by the style of burqa/niqab, it is guessed whether under the veil there is someone young or old.

In Islam, the purpose of burqa or niqab is that the curves of any girl’s body should not be apparent, and this is also the shariah of wearing clothes that women should wear clothes in a way that the body is not prominent. But nowadays everything has become the opposite, that too by falling into the humiliation of fashion. Clothes are already tight, and on top of that the tragedy is that the niqab/burqa is also so tight and designer that even a person with cataract would be eager to look, astaghfirullah.

I do not think that the girls or women wearing tight niqab need niqab, because when the purpose of purdah is not fulfilled, then what is the benefit of just putting a cloth over? It would be better to just put a long sheet over, that is also fine. Otherwise, if there is a burqa or niqab, it should be loose. If you have to wear a tight niqab, then just wrap a cloth on the face and go out, the body is already covered by clothes.

Therefore, a very concise, sincere, and respectful request to women is that if you do purdah, do it according to shariah, otherwise what is the benefit if you remain sinful even after doing purdah?

When you do shariah purdah, then your sister will also do shariah purdah, your daughter will also do shariah purdah, and you will get respect, and above all, you will attain closeness and love of Allah. And do not think of purdah as a big burden.

Or if shaitan puts any waswasa, drive it away and say that this is the command of my Allah, and I can only be good in His sight when I do shariah purdah. Do not underestimate yourself, rather take pride. And if possible, do wear hand gloves, meaning dastane, this will protect the skin and taqwa will also be attained.
