Perfecting the Work of Dawah and Living with Gratitude

Perfecting the Work of Dawah and Living with Gratitude

We must perfect the work of Dawah.

The Noble Companions, may Allah be pleased with them all, perfected it. They lived as if they belonged only to this work.

They fulfilled whatever demand the time placed upon them. The Companions lived in a world of constant demands.

In fact, you could say that 10 of the 13 years of effort in Makkah were spent fulfilling demands.

In those 13 years of Makkah, such Companions were prepared that for 10 years they let no demand go unmet.

They came to Madinah in such a state that they fully engaged the Ansar in this work too. They came with this foundation: whatever demand arises, we must stand up for it.

We treat this work as just a deed of reward.

Or we do it because of gatherings, or because someone got cured, or because some problem got solved.

The Noble Companions had none of these reasons for going out in Allah’s path.

In every heart was rooted this thought: I am for the whole world, and the whole world is my responsibility.

This responsibility was on everyone, because it is a Divine command: You have been raised for the benefit of people.

From worship to dealings, from character to society, each one had entered Deen completely. Each one was aware of the entire Deen.

Why was the environment like that? Because each person was fulfilling his responsibility. Each one had handed over his life and wealth to Allah in exchange for Jannah, to attain Jannah. The Companions themselves would say that none among us considered any share of our life or wealth as our own.

This work is to be done for Allah’s pleasure and to build our Hereafter.

This is the same in the Dawah of all the Prophets.

We have been given this chance to build our Hereafter.

And Deen was given. If there is Deen, the Hereafter will be built. Otherwise, the Hereafter will be ruined.

We were created for Deen. This is what we will be questioned about in the grave.

If we enter the grave with Deen, we succeed. Otherwise, we fail.

This Deen will remain forever. In the grave, at the Gathering, deeds will surround us from all sides. Wherever there is an empty space, patience will come there. That is why it is essential for hearts to be settled on Deen.

It is essential for hearts to be settled on Deen.

It is essential to turn to Deen with the heart. The heart must be attached. Mere inclination is not enough. Inclinations keep changing.

Through the effort of Deen, the benefit of Deen will become clear, and the loss of having no Deen will become clear. This also helps the heart settle, when one sees benefit in a work.

In effort there are virtues and blessings. Hope is given. A person’s self gets uneasy. It gets uneasy with truth.

Allah gave encouragement to move forward. One will continue only if he understands his own benefit and loss. The one with personal motives will not continue. This work has no connection with personal motives. This work is for Allah’s pleasure and to build the Hereafter.

Work with gratitude.

In good conditions, work with gratitude.

It is essential for hearts to be settled. Sometimes the heart also turns. When good conditions came, he became arrogant. When bad conditions came, he lost hope. He forgot the purpose of life.

When health and wealth came, he forgot. Or when hardships struck, poverty, illness, and other trials came, he sat back from the work.

Both are wrong. In good conditions work with gratitude, and in bad conditions work with patience. This is the way of the Prophets.

Do Allah’s work in a state of gratitude. Those who truly recognize the Truth, such servants are few.

This is the way and this is the demand.

He said: O family of Dawud, peace be upon him, make your conduct one of gratitude. Few of My servants are grateful.

Remaining firm on the work is gratitude.

To remain firm on Deen, on the work of Deen, on obedience, steadfastness is gratitude. And to turn back, to sit down, is ingratitude.

Allah gave the idolaters of Makkah such a great blessing, but in response to the blessing they disbelieved. They also brought their people to ruin. They neither did it themselves nor let others do it. When they were ungrateful, Allah brought the Ansar. The Ansar of Madinah valued it, so they remained ahead in every work of Deen.

Shortcomings, slackness can happen, but do not be ungrateful. Seek forgiveness. Allah loves such servants. If a good deed happens, consider it good. If a mistake happens, seek forgiveness, and Allah will grant firmness.

This too is a demand. Steadfastness, consistency, and gratitude are demands of the Truth.

If you are given something you like, then spend it where Allah’s displeasure is not. When you get a blessing, think where to spend it.

For His blessings, choose the path that pleases the Giver.
