 Intention of hazraate husain raziyallahu anhu’s companions for qitaal and his answer that i will not do qitaal

Tightening the field and stopping water

At maqaame nenvi a rider came to har bin yazeed with a letter which said, the moment you get my this letter, tighten the field on husain raz and take him to such an open field where there is no water. And i ordered the messenger to stay with you until you implement my order. Har bin yazeed also read this letter to hazrat husain raz, that at this time spies are appointed over me, i cannot do any plan now.

At that time zubair bin alqeen raz said, every coming moment is adding difficulty, and for us to fight this army is easier than what will come after it. Hazrat husain raz said, i do not want to start qitaal. Zubair raz said, you do not start qitaal, rather take us to that village which is a protected place and on the bank of river faraat. If these people stop us from going there, then we will fight. Aap asked, which place is that. It was said, aqar is. Aap said, i seek refuge from aqar.

*Army of amr bin sa'ad and order to stop water*

Ibne ziyaad forced amr bin sa'ad and sent him with army for confrontation. Amr bin sa'ad came and asked hazrat husain raz reason for coming to kuffa. Aap told the whole story and said, if their opinion has changed now, then i am ready to return. Amr bin sa'ad wrote a letter to ibne ziyaad with this content that husain raz is ready to go back. Ibne ziyaad replied, place only one matter before husain raz that he do bait on yazeed’s hand. When he does that, then we will think what to do with him. And ordered amr bin sa'ad to stop water on them, and water was stopped. This incident is 3 days before shahadat. Here till when these hazraat became distressed with thirst, then hazrat husain raz sent his brother abbas bin ali raz with 30 footmen to get water. On bringing water there was confrontation with amr bin sa'ad’s army too, but they brought 20 mashk filled with water. After this a message was sent to amr bin sa'ad for talks.

Hazrat husain raziyallahu anhu said, about us you choose one of 3 options.

1. I return to where i came from.  

2. Or i reach yazeed and settle my matter with him myself.  

3. Or you take me to some border of muslims, whatever condition is of common people there, i will live in that. Some ulama denied the last 2 options. Hearing this, amr bin sa'ad again wrote a letter to ibne ziyaad that allah ta'ala extinguished the fire of war and united the word of muslims. Hazrat husain raz gave me choice of 3 options, and obviously in these your purpose is fulfilled and in this is success and welfare of ummat.

*Ibne ziyaad accepting conditions and shimar’s refusal*

Ibne ziyaad also was affected by this letter of amr bin sa'ad and said, this letter is of a man who also wants obedience to ameer and also wishes safety of his nation. We accepted it.

Shimar ziljoshan said, do you want to give respite to husain raz so that he gains strength and then comes against you. If he gets out of your hand today, then you will never get control over him. You force him that he come to you, then whether you punish or forgive. Ibne ziyaad accepted shimar’s opinion and sent a letter of same content by shimar’s hand to amr bin sa'ad and instructed that if amr bin sa'ad does not implement the order immediately, kill him and you yourself become ameer of army. Before leaving, shimar thought that among hazrat husain raz’s companions are his cousins too. He took amaan for them from ibne ziyaad and left.

On 9 muharram when shimar reached with letter, amr bin sa'ad understood all that this whole situation happened because of shimar. Said, you did great oppression. The word of muslims was uniting, you ended it and heated the market of killing and fighting. When this message reached hazrat husain raz, aap refused to accept it, that death is better than this humiliation.

*Hazrat husain raziyallahu anhu saw huzur sallallahu alaihivasallam in dream*

Hazrat husain raziyallahu anhu was sitting in his tent, in this state drowsiness came and eyes closed. He woke up with a voice. Aap’s sister hazrat zenab raz came running. He said, i saw rasulullah sallallahu alaihivasallam in dream. He said, now you are coming to us. Sister hearing this started crying. Hazrat husain raz consoled her. In this state shimar came in front with army and announced qitaal without delay. Hazrat husain raz asked for one night’s respite so i can do will and prayer and dua and astagfaar tonight. Shimar, after consulting, gave respite.

*Speech of hazrat husain raziyallahu anhu*

Hazrat husain raz gathered his ahle bait and companions and gave a khutba, in which after hamd and sana, darood and salaam, said, i think tomorrow is our last day. I happily give permission to all of you that all disperse in this night’s darkness and go where you find refuge, and each take the hand of one from my ahle bait and spread in different areas. Because the enemy seeks me. If he gets me, he will not turn to others. Hearing this speech, aap’s brothers, children, brothers’ children, and children of abdullah bin jaafar raz, banu aqeel, all together with one voice said, wallah we will never go. May allah ta'ala not keep us alive after you.

*Will to ahle bait*

Hazrat husain raz gave will to his sister hazrat zenab raz and ahle bait, i give you oath of god that after my shahadat you do not tear clothes, and do not do chest beating etc ever. Save from loud crying and shouting. After this will, aap and all companions became busy in night of tahajjud and dua and astagfaar. This was the night of ashura and in morning was day of ashura and friday.

*Har bin yazeed with hazrat husain raziyallahu anhu*

In morning right after prayer, amr bin sa'ad came in front with army. At that time with hazrat husain raz there were 72 companions. 30 riders and 40 footmen. Aap also arranged rows for confrontation. Amr bin sa'ad divided his army into 4 parts and made an ameer for each part. Among them ameer of one part was har bin yazeed, who was sent first with army of one thousand, and was walking with hazrat husain raz, and had been affected by his khutbas. In his heart the passion of love for ahle bait athaar had awakened. He rode his horse and joined hazrat husain raz’s army and said, i did not estimate that these people will reach this limit against you. If i knew, i would never have stopped you. Now my punishment is this that i give my life fighting with you. And same happened.
