Hazrat husain raziyallahu anhu’s resolve to go to kuffaResolve to go to kuffa
150 letters and many delegations of ahle kuffa had already reached hazrat husain raz. Then muslim bin aqeel raz informed about bait of 18 thousand muslims and invited him to come to kuffa. So hazrat husain raz made resolve to go to kuffa. But when this matter became famous, except abdullah bin zubair raz, no one else advised going to kuffa. Many hazraat came to his service and advised not to trust the promises and baits of ahle kuffa and iraaq and that there is great danger in going there.
*Advice of hazrat abdullah ibne abbas raziyallahu anhu*
When ibne abbas raz got news of hazrat husain raz’s intention, he came and said, brother i give you in allah’s protection from this. For allah’s sake tell me, are you going for such a nation who killed the ameer imposed on them and have taken control of their city and expelled their enemies. Then surely you should go immediately on their call. Hazrat husain raz replied, okay i do istkhara from allah, then will act on whatever i understand.
Next day ibne abbas raz came again and said, brother i want to be patient but cannot be patient. I see severe danger of destruction in this step of yours. Ahle iraaq are disloyal, oath breakers. You do not go to them. You are muslim leader and head of ahle hijaaz. And if ahle iraaq make further demand from you, then write to them that first expel ameer and rulers from your city, then call me. My brother, if you have already decided to go, then for allah’s sake do not take women and children with you. I fear that somewhere you are killed in front of your women and children just like hazrat usman raz was killed.
*Departure of hazrat husain raziyallahu for kuffa*
Hazrat husain raz considered it a religious necessity near him and made resolve for allah’s sake. Those who advised made him aware of dangers, but importance of purpose forced him to face the dangers. And on 3 or 8 zilhijja 60 he left. At that time from yazeed’s side, makka’s governor was amr bin sa'ad bin aas. When he got news of his departure, he sent some men on the way to stop him. But hazrat husain raz refused to return and went ahead.
*Meeting with farzooq poet*
On the way farzooq poet was coming from iraaq side. Hazrat husain raziyallahu anhu asked him, in what condition did you leave ahle iraaq. Farzooq replied, hearts of ahle iraaq are with you, but their swords are with bani umaiya, and fate descends from sky and allah ta'ala does what he wills. Hazrat husain raz said, you speak truth. All matters are in allah’s hand. He does what he wills. And our lord is in a new glory every day. If divine fate is according to our wish, we will thank allah and in thanking also we seek his help that he grant ability to give thanks. And if divine fate blocks our wish, then that person is not on error whose intention is support of truth and who has fear of allah in heart.
*Dream of hazrat husain raziyallahu anhu and reason for resolve*
When hazrat abdullah bin jaafar raz heard news of hazrat husain raz’s departure, he quickly sent his sons with a letter to stop him on the way. Writing this letter, first abdullah bin jaafar raz went to makka’s governor from yazeed’s side amr bin sa'ad and got a written assurance from him that if he returns, good treatment will be done with him in makka.
When this letter reached hazrat husain raz, at that time aap gave one more reason for his resolve. I saw rasulullah sallallahu alaihivasallam in dream and from aap sallallahu alaihivasallam’s side this order was given to me. I am going to fulfill this order, whatever may happen to me. They asked, what is the dream. Said, till today i did not tell that dream to anyone, nor will tell, until i meet my lord.
*Letter of hazrat husain raziyallahu anhu to people of kuffa*
When hazrat husain raz reached the place haajir, he wrote a letter to ahle kuffa and sent it by hazrat qais. In the letter was information of his coming and instruction to fully try for the work for which ahle kuffa called him.
When hazrat qais took this letter and reached qaadsiya, there he was arrested and sent to ibne ziyaad. Ibne ziyaad ordered him to abuse and curse hazrat husain raz from palace roof, ma'azallah. But qais with loud voice explained the purpose of hazrat husain raz’s coming. Angered by this, ibne ziyaad ordered to throw him down from the height of palace and hazrat qais was martyred.
*News of muslim bin aqeel raziyallahu anhu’s killing and mashwarah with companions*
On the way at a stop, suddenly there was meeting with abdullah bin mati'a. He also said, o ibne rasulullah, i give you allah’s and islam’s honor’s oath that you stop from this intention. If you try to take power from banu umayya, they will kill you. You do not do this, do not go to kuffa. But hazrat husain raz did not change his intention.
Reaching maqaame sa'albiya, aap got news of muslim bin aqeel raz’s killing which was given by the messenger sent by muhammad bin as'as. Hearing this news, some of aap’s companions also insisted to return. But banu aqeel came in passion and said we will take revenge for muslim bin aqeel raz or give life like him. Some companions’ opinion was that you are not muslim bin aqeel raz, your rank is something else. We hope when ahle kuffa see you, they will join you. Here then it was decided to move forward, travel was done and stop was made reaching maqaame ziyala. Here news came that your foster brother abdullah ibne laqeet whom you sent toward muslim bin aqeel raz on the way, he was also killed. After this news hazrat husain raz gathered his companions and said, ahle kuffa deceived us. Now whoever wishes may return. I do not want to take responsibility of anyone on my head. After this announcement, people who joined on the way all left. And now with hazrat husain raz only those people remained who were with him from makka.
*Har bin yazeed reached with army of one thousand from ibne ziyaad*
On the way at noon, from far a cavalry army appeared. Seeing this, hazrat husain raz and his companions, near a mountain, started making a battle front. Just then har bin yazeed’s army came in front for confrontation. Hazrat husain raz said to his companions, drink water well and give to horses and satisfy them.
Here time for zuhar prayer came and all gathered for prayer. Hazrat husain raz gave a speech for the opposing side to hear. Hearing the speech, all remained silent. Hazrat husain raz ordered for aqaamat of prayer and said to har bin yazeed, will you pray separately with your army or with us. Har bin yazeed said, no, we all will pray behind you. Hazrat husain raz led zuhar prayer and went to his place. Then he also led asar prayer and all joined. After asar aap gave a khutba, in which he explained the purpose of his coming. Har bin yazeed said, we have no news of letters and delegations. Aap poured out 2 bags filled with letters in front of those people. Har bin yazeed said, anyhow we are not the writers of these letters. We have order from the ameer that we do not leave you until we take you to ibne ziyaad at kuffa. Hazrat husain raz replied, then death is better than this.
*Objection of har bin yazeed*
Har bin yazeed said to hazrat husain raz, i am not ordered to fight you, rather i will not separate from you until i take you to kuffa. So you can do this that adopt such a path which neither reaches kuffa nor madina. Till then i will write to ibne ziyaad and you also write to yazeed or ibne ziyaad. Perhaps allah ta'ala creates for me some sincere way that i am saved from confronting you and harming you. So hazrat husain raz started moving to left side from the path of azeeb and qadsiya, and har bin yazeed also kept moving with army. During this hazrat husain raz gave third khutba. Har bin yazeed already had respect for ahle bait in heart, and was getting affected by aap’s khutbas.
*Advice of tirmah bin adi*
In this state 4 men came from kuffa as helpers of hazrat husain raz, whose leader was tirmah bin adi. Har bin yazeed wanted to arrest them or return them to kuffa. But hazrat husain raz said, these are my helpers and companions. I will protect them like my own life. Har bin yazeed gave them permission.
Hazrat husain raz asked these people about kuffa’s condition. They said, big chiefs of kuffa have been given big bribes. Now they all are against you. However, hearts of public are with you. But despite that when confrontation happens, their swords will also come against you. I see you have no force and group with you. Before leaving kuffa i saw such a big army that my eye never saw before. I give you oath of god, do not move even one span toward them. You come with me. I will place you in my mountain area aaja, which is a very secure fort like place. Then both mountain tribes aaja and salmi will come to your help. At that time if your opinion is still of confrontation, then i take responsibility for 20 thousand brave soldiers for you. Hazrat husain raz said, may allah ta'ala give your nation good reward. But a matter is settled between us and har bin yazeed. Now we are bound by it and we do not know what is going to happen with us. Tirmah bin adi took leave and promised to come again with provisions, and he did come also, but on the way hearing wrong news of hazrat husain raz’s shahadat, he returned.
*Dream of hazrat husain raziyallahu anhu*
Reaching nasr bani muqatal, aap felt a little drowsiness. Then saying inna lillah he woke up. Aap’s son ali akbar raz heard, came forward worried, asked, father what is the matter. Aap said, i saw in dream a rider came to me and said, some people are walking and their death is walking with them. From this i understood that this is news of our death. Son said, are we not on truth. Said, by oath of that being to whom all servants of god return, without doubt we are on truth. Said, then what fear do we have when we are dying on truth. Hazrat husain raz encouraged him, said, may allah ta'ala give you good reward, you fulfilled the true right of your father.
