Rasulullah sallallahu alaihivasallam’s second grandson and hazrat ali rd and hazrat fatima rd’s younger son hazrat husain rd was born in shaban 4 hijri. Aap sallallahu alaihivasallam himself named him husain, gave him honey to taste, put his blessed tongue in his mouth and gave blessed saliva, and ordered his aqeeqa and giving silver equal to hair weight in sadaqa. Like his elder brother hazrat hasan raziyallahu anhu, hazrat husain raziyallahu anhu resembled huzur e sallallahu alaihivasallam. When rasulullah sallallahu alaihivasallam passed away, his age was only 6 or 7 years. In the last period of hazrat umar raziyallahu anhu’s khilafat, aap started taking part in jihaad. In hazrat usman raziyallahu anhu’s time, when rebels surrounded his house, hazrat ali raziyallahu anhu appointed both his sons hazrat hasan and hazrat husain to protect his house. After hazrat ali raziyallahu anhu’s shahadat, when hazrat hasan rd made peace with hazrat muaviya raziyallahu anhu and expressed intent to step down from khilafat, hazrat husain rd disagreed with brother’s opinion but out of respect for elder brother accepted his decision. However, after hazrat hasan raziyallahu anhu’s death, when hazrat muaviya raziyallahu anhu took allegiance for his son yazeed’s khilafat, hazrat husain raziyallahu anhu could not bear it at all. And after yazeed became khalifa, with intention of jihaad he went from madina tayyaba to kuffa and the incident of karbala happened. Aap was martyred there on 10 muharram, 61 hijri.
Raziyallahu anhu va arzah
*Virtues of hazraate hasnain raziyallahu*
The honor of being rasulullah sallallahu alaihivasallam’s grandsons and aap sallallahu alaihivasallam’s sahabi is itself not less. Then aap sallallahu alaihivasallam had great love for hazraate hasnain raz. The state of affection and love was such that both brothers in childhood would climb on aap sallallahu alaihivasallam’s blessed back during prayer. Sometimes they would pass between both legs. And aap sallallahu alaihivasallam would take care of them even in prayer. Until they stayed climbed on back, aap sallallahu alaihivasallam would not raise head from sajda. Aap sallallahu alaihivasallam often took them in lap, sometimes made them ride on shoulders, kissed them, smelled them and said, you are the fragrance given by allah.
*Love and duas of rasulullah sallallahu alaihivasallam*
In sahi bukhari hazrat abi bin saabit raz narrates that rasoolullah sallallahu alaihivasallam had hazrat hasan raz on his shoulder and was making this dua, o allah, he is beloved to me, you also make him your beloved.
Imaam tirmizi reh mentioned hadith of hazrat usama bin zaid raziyallahu anhu that i came to aap sallallahu alaihivasallam for a need. Aap came out of house in such state that aap sallallahu alaihivasallam had something kept in both laps and was wearing a cloak. When i finished my work i asked, what is this. Then aap sallallahu alaihivasallam removed the cloak. I saw hazrat hasan on one side and hazrat husain on the other side. And said, o allah i love both of them, you also love them and make whoever loves them your beloved too. Once aap sallallahu alaihivasallam was giving khutba, both grandsons came. Aap stopped khutba, lifted both and sat them beside himself, then completed the remaining khutba. Hazrat hasan raz and hazrat husain raz both brothers were very worshipful. Both did hajj many times walking from madina tayyaba to makka mukarrama. They spent wealth abundantly in allah’s path. Effort and generosity they inherited from parents and maternal grandfather.
*Aap sallallahu alaihivasallam’s special love*
Among all ahle bait, aap sallallahu alaihivasallam loved hazraate hasnain raz the most. Hazrat anas raz narrates, rasulullah sallallahu alaihivasallam said that among ahle bait, hasan and husain are most beloved to me.
Aap used to pray to allah for love of these beloved ones. Hazrat abu haraira raz narrates that once i returned from market with rasulullah sallallahu alaihivasallam. Aap went to hazrat fatima raz’s house and asked, where are the children. After a while both came searching and clung to rasulullah sallallahu alayhivasallam. Aap said, by god i love them, so you also love them and love whoever loves them.
Once aap sallallahu alaihivasallam came out carrying hazrat hasan raziyallahu anhu on shoulder. A person saw and said, what a good ride for the son. Aap sallallahu alaihivasallam said, the rider is also very good.
*Status with rasulullah sallallahu alaihivasallam*
Leaving aside the status of prophethood, as far as rasulullah sallallahu alaihivasallam’s human status is concerned, hazrat hasan raz and hazrat husain raz’s being was like a part of muhammadi being.
Hazrat ali raz bin murrah narrates that rasoolullah sallallahu alaihivasallam said, husain is from me and i am from husain. Whoever loves husain, allah loves him.
Aap sallallahu alaihivasallam used to call hazraate hasnain raz his two flowers of jannat. Ibne umar raziyallahu anhu narrates that rasoolullah sallallahu alaihivasallam said, hasan and husain are my two flowers of jannat.
Hazraate hasnain raz are leaders of youth of jannat. Hazrat huzaifa raziyallahu anhu says, once i prayed maghrib and isha with rasulullah sallallahu alaihivasallam. After isha prayer aap sallallahu alaihivasallam left. I also followed behind. Hearing my voice aap asked, who. Huzaifa. I said, yes. Said, may allah forgive you and your mother. Do you have any need. See, just now this angel descended who never came before. Allah permitted him to greet me and give me good news that fatima is leader of women of jannat and hasan and husain are leaders of youth of jannat.
*Special virtues of hazrat hasan raziyallahu anhu*
Besides these common virtues, hazrat hasan raziyallahu anhu has some distinct virtues that make him distinguished from hazrat husain raziyallahu anhu. Among these virtues the biggest virtue is that huzur sallallahu alaihivasallam gave prophecy about him that, this son of mine is sayyad. Through him allah will make peace between two big groups of muslims. At the time of peace with hazrat amire muaviya raziyallahu anhu, hazrat hasan raz practically proved this prophecy. On one occasion he said, hasan raz was given my forbearance.
*Hazrat husain raziyallahu anhu’s participation in battle*
Hazrat husain raziyallahu anhu also took part in that battle which attacked kustuntuniya in 15 hijri. Yazeed bin muaviya was also in this attack.
*Humility of hazrat husain bin ali raziyallahu anhu*
Hazrat husain bin ali raziyallahu anhu was extremely humble. Once passing on horse, he saw a group of poor people sitting on ground eating pieces of bread. Aap greeted them. Those people said, son of rasool, eat with us. Aap raz got down from horse and sat with them and joined in eating. On this occasion aap recited this ayat of surah nahal, innallahu la yuhibbul mustakabireen. Allah does not like those who are arrogant. After finishing, said, brothers, you invited me, i accepted. Now you all accept my invitation. Those people also accepted invitation and came to aap’s house. When all sat, aap said, rubaab, bring whatever is left preserved.
