CELEBRATING HAPPY NEW YEAR IN THE VIEW OF ISLAM
It is clear from the evidence of Quran and Sunnah that celebrating New Year is a bid'ah. It is a new matter invented in religion.
There is no proof for it in Islamic Shariah. Accepting such invitations is also not permissible.
Because participating in it and accepting the invitation supports bid'ah and promotes it.
*"Or do they have partners with Allah who have instituted for them a religion which Allah has not allowed. And if it had not been for a decisive word, it would have been judged between them. And indeed, the wrongdoers will have a painful punishment."* [42:21]
Allah Ta'ala said: Have these people set up partners with Allah who have prescribed for them such rulings in religion which Allah has not commanded?
If there had not been a promise of the Day of Judgment, decision would have been made among them right now. Indeed, for these wrongdoers there is a painful punishment.
*"Then We put you, [O Muhammad], on an ordained way concerning the matter [of religion]; so follow it and do not follow the inclinations of those who do not know."* [45:18]
*"Indeed, they will never avail you against Allah at all. And indeed, the wrongdoers are allies of one another; but Allah is the protector of the righteous."* [45:19]
At another place Allah Ta'ala said: Then We established you upon the path of religion. So remain firm on it.
And do not follow the desires of the ignorant. Remember, these people can never be of any use to you before Allah.
Because wrongdoers are friends of one another. And Allah is the Guardian of the righteous.
*"Follow, [O mankind], what has been revealed to you from your Lord and do not follow other than Him any allies. Little do you remember."* [7:3]
And Allah Ta'ala said: Follow what has been revealed to you from your Lord.
And do not follow fabricated guardians besides Allah. You people take very little advice.
In Sahih Hadith, Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: Whoever does any deed upon which there is no command from us, it is rejected.
Imam Muslim narrated it in Sahih Muslim. In another Hadith, Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said:
The best Book is the Book of Allah. The best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
The worst matters are innovations. And every innovation is misguidance. There are many Ahadith on this subject.
Besides these celebrations being bid'ah and evil, there is no basis for them in Islamic Shariah.
Rather, this is resemblance with Jews and Christians. Because they celebrate these occasions.
The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam commanded his Ummah to avoid following their way and said:
You will surely follow those before you exactly, just as one shoe resembles the other shoe.
Even if they entered the hole of a lizard, you would try to enter it.
The Sahaba asked: O Messenger of Allah, do you mean Jews and Christians? He said: Who else?
This was narrated by Bukhari and Muslim. "Who else" means: Who else could be meant by this statement?
In another Hadith, he Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: Whoever imitates a people is one of them.
