Lessons of Faith, Gratitude, and a Pure Heart

Echoes Of Rehaan

There are times when a person feels completely broken because they did not receive something they desperately wanted. In such moments, it may seem as though Allah has withheld a blessing, and the disappointment can either bring a person closer to Him or lead them toward frustration and rebellion.

Yet Allah continually reminds His servants that His decision is always better than their desires. What we ask for may not always be what is best for us, but Allah's wisdom encompasses what we cannot see. Every delay, denial, or redirection carries a purpose known only to Him. A believer should always turn to Allah with humility and say, “O Allah, do not leave me to myself even for a moment, for I have no one besides You.”

O Allah, we raise our hands before You and seek Your mercy, blessings, and generosity. Grant us what is best for us and what we truly need. Bless us according to Your greatness rather than according to the limits of our requests. Keep us steadfast upon the religion of Islam and guide our footsteps along the path that leads to Your pleasure.

O Allah, You are fully aware of everything we do, and nothing is hidden from Your knowledge. Protect us from all forms of injustice and protect us from becoming unjust ourselves. Save us from the punishment of Hell and never leave us alone in this world or the Hereafter. Grant us the ability to recite the Holy Qur’an daily with understanding and to live according to its teachings.

We also pray for every person who is suffering from illness. May Allah grant them complete healing, surround them with His protection, and bless them with health and well-being. Ameen.

Sometimes, while walking on a road, we remove a thorny branch or an obstacle so that no traveler is harmed and no one’s clothing becomes entangled. This simple act of kindness is greatly rewarded in Islam. Yet many of us continue to carry the thorns of resentment, anger, bitterness, and hurt within our hearts. We hold on to painful words, misunderstandings, and grudges long after they should have been removed.

If removing a thorn from a pathway earns reward from Allah, imagine the reward for removing hatred, envy, and resentment from the heart. Islam is a religion of mercy and compassion. It teaches us to remove harm from the road, care for others, and purify our hearts from negative feelings. A faith that rewards the removal of a stone or thorn from a path is a faith that encourages kindness in every aspect of life.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) taught that within the human body there is a piece of flesh. If it is sound, the entire body is sound; and if it is corrupted, the entire body is corrupted. That piece of flesh is the heart.

He frequently made the supplication, “O Turner of the hearts, keep my heart firm upon Your religion.” This powerful prayer teaches us that guidance is a gift from Allah and that every believer should continually seek steadfastness and sincerity.

Many conversations would become silent if people removed gossip, slander, false accusations, and unnecessary criticism from their speech. Silence, when it protects a person from sin, can become a beautiful act of worship.

Some people say that we should never look back at the past. However, there is wisdom in remembering where we came from. Looking back reminds us of our humble beginnings, our struggles, our mistakes, and the countless blessings Allah has granted us along the way. It keeps us grateful and prevents arrogance from entering our hearts.

A wise father once advised that a person should only say behind someone's back what they would be willing to say in that person's presence. The advice seems simple, yet living by it is often difficult. However, whenever a person succeeds in following this principle, life becomes lighter, relationships become healthier, and the conscience remains at peace.

True faith is not only found in worship but also in honesty, humility, kindness, patience, and the purification of the heart. When these qualities come together, they bring a person closer to Allah and fill life with meaning, peace, and purpose.
