The Event of As-haab-e-Feel The People of the Elephant

 The Event of As-haab-e-Feel
The People of the Elephant
The Event of As-haab-e-Feel The People of the Elephant

The event of As-haab-e-Feel took place 50 or 55 days before the blessed birth of the Prophet ï·º.

The King of Abyssinia, *"Abraha"*, appointed a man as the governor of Yemen. He built a church in *"San'a"*, the capital of Yemen.

His purpose in building it was that he wanted people to consider his constructed church as a sacred center instead of the Kaaba.

When this was not possible, Abraha decided to attack the Kaaba. His army included hundreds of elephants.

The aim of attacking the Kaaba was not just madness, but also to gain complete control over the important trade route of "Akhzar". Because in those days, the nation that held the major trade routes was the one that ruled over supreme power and the economy.

Before Islam, the Kaaba was not only the cultural and religious sacred center of the Arabs, but it was also their economic center.

Therefore, when the news of this attack spread in Arabia, all of Arabia prepared to resist. The Arabs living in Yemen fought against Abraha. But Abraha was not defeated. Instead, he defeated them and imprisoned them.

After this, Abraha reached the place of *"Khath'am"*. The chief of that tribe, *"Nufail bin Habeeb"*, fought against Abraha along with his entire tribe.

But Abraha’s army defeated them too and imprisoned Nufail bin Habeeb as well.

After this, Abraha’s army reached near Taif. The people of Taif had already heard about him.

The people of Taif had built a very large house in the name of the idol *"Laat"*. They decided that if Abraha did not touch it, they would not fight him.

Furthermore, they also offered Abraha that they would send one of their chiefs, *"Abu Righal"*, with him as a guide.

Abraha agreed to this and, taking Abu Righal with him, camped at a place near Makkah called *"Mughammas"* (pronounced like "Muazzam").

There it was found out that the camels of the Quraysh of Makkah were grazing. Abraha’s army first attacked them and seized the camels. Among them were 200 camels belonging to the grandfather of the Messenger of Allah ï·º, *"Khwaja Abdul Muttalib"* (his real name was Shaiba Al-Hamd; the reason he became famous as Abdul Muttalib will come later).

Upon reaching here, Abraha sent an envoy, *"Hunaatah Khath'ami"*, to Makkah to inform the chiefs of Quraysh that we have not come to fight you. Our only purpose is to demolish the Kaaba. If you do not create any obstruction in this, we will not cause you any harm.

When Hunaatah entered Makkah, everyone told him about Khwaja Abdul Muttalib, that he was the greatest chief of Quraysh.

Hunaatah talked with Abdul Muttalib for some time regarding this matter. Khwaja Abdul Muttalib replied that we also have no intention of fighting Abraha. Nor do we have the strength to resist him.

As for the rest, the Kaaba is the House of Allah and it was built by His friend Ibrahim A.S. He Himself is responsible for its protection.

Hunaatah said to Abdul Muttalib, "Then come with me. I will take you to meet Abraha."

After meeting Abraha, *Khwaja Abdul Muttalib* went back to Makkah. He ordered the people of Makkah to leave the city and take refuge in the mountains. Because no one had the power to fight such a huge army with elephants.

Then Abraha ordered his army to move towards the Kaaba. When they brought the biggest elephant *"Mahmood"* forward to demolish the Kaaba, a miracle happened.

As soon as the elephant was turned towards the Kaaba, it sat down and refused to move. They beat it, pulled it, but it would not get up.

But when they turned it towards Yemen or any other direction, it would immediately start running.

At that very moment, *Allah’s help arrived.*

*Allah's Punishment:*

Allah sent flocks of birds called *"Ababeel"* from the sky.

Each bird had 3 small stones in its beak and claws. Each stone was the size of a lentil or chickpea.

On each stone the name of the person it was meant for was written.

These birds started pelting the stones on Abraha’s army.

Wherever a stone hit a soldier, his body started rotting and falling apart.

The entire army was destroyed within minutes.

The Qur'an describes this event in *Surah Al-Feel*:

*"Alam tara kayfa fa'ala Rabbuka bi As-haabil-Feel"*

"Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with the People of the Elephant?"

*"Wa arsala 'alayhim tayran Ababeel"*

"And He sent against them birds in flocks."

*"Tarmeehim bi hijaratim min sijjeel"*

"Pelting them with stones of baked clay."

*"Faja'alahum ka'asfim ma'kool"*

"And He made them like eaten straw."

*Result of the Event:*

1.  Allah Himself protected the Kaaba.

2.  The respect of Quraysh increased all over Arabia.

3.  This event happened just 50 days before the birth of the Prophet ï·º. It was a sign that Allah wanted to make this city and this house safe for the last Prophet ï·º.

Whoever stands against Allah and His House, Allah destroys him in the most humiliating way. And Allah is sufficient as a protector for His House. When Abraha saw Abdul Muttalib, he saw a man of great dignity and grandeur. Seeing him, he got down from his throne. He made Abdul Muttalib sit beside him and told his interpreter to ask Abdul Muttalib what was the purpose of his coming?

Abdul Muttalib said: "Return my camels which your army has seized."

Abraha said: "When I saw you, a great respect and awe for you entered my heart. But your conversation has completely destroyed it.

That you are only talking to me about your 200 camels. Whereas you very well know that I have come to demolish the Kaaba. You have said nothing about that."

Abdul Muttalib replied: "I am the owner of the camels, so I am concerned about them. And the Owner of the House of Allah is Allah Himself. He knows how to protect His House."

Abraha said: "Your God will not be able to save it from me."

Abdul Muttalib said "Then you have the choice, do whatever you want." Abraha returned the camels of Khwaja Abdul Muttalib, and he took his camels and returned.

And holding the curtain of the Kaaba, they became busy in supplication. A large group of Quraysh was with him. All of them prayed to Allah Almighty that we have no strength to face Abraha’s great army. You Yourself arrange for the protection of Your House.

After praying, Abdul Muttalib and other people of Makkah spread out to different mountains. They were certain that Allah’s punishment was about to come upon this army.

The next day, Abraha prepared to attack the Kaaba and mounted his famous elephant "Mahmood".

At that very time, the chief of the Khath'am tribe, Nufail bin Habeeb, who had been captured by Abraha on the way, came forward and whispered in his ear: "Go back safely from where you came, because Abraha has come to demolish the Kaaba."

A miracle of Allah’s power was manifested. As soon as the elephant heard this, it sat down. The mahouts tried every way to make it stand but failed. They struck it with large arrows and spears. They put an iron hook in its nose, but the elephant still would not stand. When the people tried to turn it towards the West, it immediately stood up. Then when they tried to make it go towards Shaam, it stood up. When they made it go towards the East, it stood up. After making it go in all these directions, when they made it go towards Makkah, it sat down again.

From the other side, from the direction of the sea, flocks of birds began to appear, each of which had 3 small stones, the size of lentils or peas.

One in its beak and two in its claws. The birds were of a strange kind, never seen before.

They were smaller than pigeons in the group. They had feet like a hen. In each claw was one stone and one stone in the beak. They came, showed it, and then immediately attacked Abraha’s army.

Each one had these stones. They rained them upon Abraha’s army. The stone that hit a person would tear through his body and go into the ground. All the elephants began to flee, only one elephant remained and that too was killed by this stone.

And all the men of the army did not die at that moment, but they began to flee in different directions. The condition of all of them was that they died on the way.

Abraha was also severely punished. He did not die immediately, but such a poison spread in his body that it destroyed  Limb by limb his joints began to fall off. In this condition he was taken back to Yemen. Upon reaching the capital "San'a", his entire body fell apart and he died.

The 2 tusks of Abraha’s elephant Mahmood also remained in Makkah, and the people became blind and crippled.

It is narrated from Hazrat Asma bint Abu Bakr RA that: "I saw those two crippled people begging."

Waqia As-haab-e-Feel

Us ne Yemen ke dar-ul-hukumat "San'a" mein ek (church) kaleesa tameer kiya.

Tameer karne ka maqsad ye tha ke woh chahta tha ke log Baitullah ko muqaddas karne ke bajaye is ki tameer ki hui kaleesa ko muqaddas markaz ka darja dein.

Jab ye mumkin na hua to Abraha ne Kaaba par hamla karne ka irada kiya. Us ke lashkar mein sainkron hathi bhi shamil thay.

Baitullah par hamla ka maqsad sirf junoon nahi tha, balkay is ke sath sath Akhzar ki bari guzargah par mukammal tasallut hasil karna bhi tha. Kyun ke us zamane mein jis qaum ke haath mein bari guzargahein hoti thin, wahi quwwat-e-aaliya aur iqtisadiyat par hukmrani karti thi.

Islam se qabal Kaaba sirf Arabon ka saqafati aur mazhabi muqaddas markaz nahi tha, balkay is ke sath sath un ka iqtisadi markaz bhi tha.

Is liye jab is hamle ki khabar Arab mein phaili to saara Arab muqablay ke liye tayyar ho gaya. Balke us ne unko shakast de kar qaid kar liya.

Is ke baad Abraha "Khath'am" ke muqam par pohancha.

Is ke baad Abraha ka lashkar Taif ke qareeb pohancha. To Taif ke bashindon ne pehle se hi is ke mutalliq baatein sun rakhi thin.

Taif walon ne "Laat" naami but ke naam par ek bohat barha khana bana rakha tha. Unhon ne faisla kiya ke agar Abraha is ko nahi chhere ga to hum  Yeh

Is ka muqabla nahi karenge. Mazeed unhon ne Abraha ko ye bhi paishkash ki ke hum apna ek sardar *"Abu Righal"* tumhare sath rehnuma ban kar bhej dete hain

Abraha is par raazi ho gaya aur Abu Righal ko sath le kar Makkah ke qareeb ek muqam *"Mughammas"* (Muazzam ki tarah parha jata hai) par parhao kiya.

Yahan pata chala ke Quraish-e-Makkah ke oont char rahe thay. Jin mein Rasool Allah ï·º ke dada *Khwaja Abdul Muttalib* (asal naam: Shaiba Al-Hamd tha, Abdul Muttalib ke mashhoor hone ki wajah aage aa rahi hai) ke 200 oont bhi thay.

Abraha ne yahan pohanchnay ke liye ek safeer *"Hunaatah Khath'ami"* ko Makkah mein bheja ke Quraish ke sardaron ko ittila kar do ke hum tum se jang ke liye nahi aaye. Humara maqsad sirf Kaaba ko dhana hai. Agar tum ne is mein rukawat na daali to humein koi nuqsaan nahi pohanche ga.

Hunaatah jab Makkah mein dakhil hua to sab logon ne is ko Khwaja Abdul Muttalib ka pata diya ke woh Quraish ke sab se baray sardar hain.

Hunaatah ne Abdul Muttalib ke sath kuch dair is muamlay par guftagu ki. Khwaja Abdul Muttalib ne jawab diya ke hum bhi Abraha se jang ka koi irada nahi rakhte. Na hamare paas itni taaqat hai ke hum is ka muqabla kar saken.

Baqi Kaaba Allah ka ghar hai aur is ke Khaleel Ibrahim A.S ne is ko banaya hai. Woh khud hi is ki hifazat ka zimma daar hai.

Halanke aap ko ye bhi achi tarah maloom hai ke main Kaaba ko dhane ke liye aaya hun.

Aur Baitullah ke parde ko pakar kar duaein mashgool hue. Quraish ki ek bari jamaat sath thi, sab ne Allah Ta'ala se duaen keen ke Abraha ke azeem lashkar ka muqabla hamare toos mein nahi. Aap hi apne Bait ki hifazat ka intizam farmayen.

Isi dauran qabeela Khath'am ke sardar Nufail bin Habeeb, jo Abraha se raaste mein giraftar hua tha, woh aage barha aur usi ke kaan mein kaha: "Jahan se aaye hain wahin sahih salim laut jao, kyun ke Abraha Kaaba ko dhane ja raha hai."

Yahan tak ke us ko bare teer aur nezay maare gaye. Us ki naak mein lohe ka ankusar dala lekin hathi phir bhi khara na hua. Logon ne us ko Maghrib ki taraf lotana chaha to foran khara ho gaya, phir Shaam ki taraf chalana chaha to khara ho gaya, phir Mashriq ki taraf chalaya gaya. In sab atraf mein chalane ke baad phir is ko Makkah ki taraf chalane lage to baith gaya.

Dusri taraf samandar ki taraf se kuch parindon ki qatarain aati nazar aaneen jin mein se har ek ke paas 3 kankariyan thin ya masoor ke barabar thin.

Ek chonch mein aur 2 panjon mein. Parinday ajeeb tarah ke thay jo is se pehle nahi dekhe gaye.

Jamaat mein kabootar se chhote thay. Un ke panje murgi ke thay. Har panje mein ek kankari aur ek kankari chonch mein le aaye aur dikhaya. Phir ye foran Abraha ke lashkar ke ooper jhapatay.

Kankari jis par parti us ke badan ko cheerti hui zameen mein ghus jati thi. Sab hathi bhaag khare hue, sirf ek hathi baqi reh gaya tha aur woh bhi is kankari se halak ho gaya.

Aur lashkar ke sab aadmi usi waqt halak nahi hue balkay mukhtalif atraf mein bhagne lage. Un sab ka yehi haal hua ke raaste mein mar gaye.

Abraha ko bhi sakht saza mili, woh foran halak nahi hua magar us ke jism mein aisa zehar sariyat kar gaya ke us ka Aik aik kar ke jor jor sar kar girne laga. Isi haal mein us ko wapis Yemen laya gaya, wahan dar-ul-hukumat "San'a" pahunch kar us ka sara badan tukray tukray ho gaya aur woh mar gaya.

Abraha ke hathi Mahmood ke 2 daant bhi Makkah mein andhe aur apahij ho kar reh gaye.

Hazrat Asma bint Abu Bakr RA se riwayat hai ke main ne un dono apahijon ko bheek mangte hue dekha hai.
