The Prophet’s Mercy and the Ruling on Weeping During Grief
I will narrate to you an incident involving the Prophet ﷺ and his granddaughter, Hazrat Zainab (RA).
The daughter of Zainab was ill and was in the throes of death. So her father sent a message to the Prophet ﷺ saying: "My daughter, your granddaughter, is in her final moments. She is in great pain. For the sake of Allah, please come and console her."
The Prophet ﷺ was engaged in very important work for the religion at that time, so he sent an apology first. The daughter sent the message again, saying, "I swear by you to come."
Just as a mother tells her son, "Son, there is no harm in not fulfilling an oath." There is nothing wrong with this. It is not necessary to fulfill that oath. For example, if a mother says, "Son, do this much work for me," and then says, "I swear by such and such," then according to the honor of Shariah, there is no harm in breaking that oath. But it is also not necessary to fulfill it.
Finally, Hazrat Zainab sent another message saying, "I swear by you, you must come to check on your daughter."
Well, she is a daughter, and she is calling with so much love, so he had to go. The Prophet ﷺ took all the Companions who were sitting there with him and went. They called the granddaughter from the house. He took her in his lap. The girl was close to death, and then she passed away.
_"Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return."_ Tears began to flow from the eyes of the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ wept profusely.
Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf (RA), who was with him, asked, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, you teach us to be patient at the time of calamity, and yet you yourself are weeping?"
The question of Abdur Rahman bin Auf was actually for our benefit. The Companions used to ask questions not for themselves, but for the Ummah that would come after them.
It was not that the Companions had any objection to the Prophet’s ﷺ virtue, or that they were displeased with his decision. Rather, it was so that the Companions, who were to become role models for those who came later, could clarify the rulings. May Allah reward the Companions abundantly.
So the Prophet ﷺ said, "O Abdur Rahman, this weeping is a mercy that Allah has placed in the hearts of His special servants. Allah places mercy in the heart of whomever He wills, and that is why he weeps at the time of calamity."
"O Abdur Rahman, weeping is not prohibited in Shariah. Crying, wailing, striking the chest, and saying things like, 'O my crown, where have you gone? What will happen to me now? Who will take care of me?' — such statements are said at that time.
But beating the chest and doing things that create such a scene is prohibited. As for weeping, there is no prohibition from Shariah regarding it."
Nabi-e-Kareem ﷺ Ki Shafqat Aur Gham Ke Waqt Rone Ka Hukm
Main aap ko aik waqia sunata hun Janab Nabi-e-Akram ﷺ ki nawasi Hazrat Zainab (RA) ke bare mein
Zainab ki beti beemar thi aur sakraat ke aalam mein thi. To beti ne apne walid-e-mohtaram Janab Rasool Allah ﷺ ke paas paigham bheja ke "meri beti aur aap ﷺ ki nawasi apni zindagi ke aakhri lamhaat mein hain. Wo dard mein mubtala hain. Allah ke waaste tashreef le aayen aur unhe tasalli den."
Huzoor ﷺ us waqt deen ka bohot aham kaam kar rahe the, is liye pehle mazrat kar di.
Phir beti ne dobara qasam de kar paigham bheja ke "aap ko aana hi parega."
Jaise maan apne betay se kehti hai "beta, qasam tor dene mein koi harj nahi." Is mein koi gunah nahi hai. Har qasam ko poora karna zaroori nahi hota. Jaise maan kahe "beta mera ye kaam kar do" aur phir qasam bhi de, to Shariat ki roshni mein us qasam ko tor dene mein koi harj nahi, lekin poora karna bhi laazmi nahi.
Aakhir mein Hazrat Zainab (RA) ne paigham bhejwaya ke "aap ko aap ki qasam, apni beti ki khairiyat poochne zaroor aana hoga."
Barhaal beti hai aur itni mohabbat se bula rahi hai, to jana to tha hi. Huzoor ﷺ jitne Sahaba wahan baithe the sab ko saath le kar gaye. Nawasi ko ghar se bulwaya aur apni god mein le liya. Beti ka inteqal ka waqt qareeb tha aur thori dair mein us ka inteqal ho gaya.
_"Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'oon"_ parh kar Huzoor ﷺ ki aankhon se aansoo jari ho gaye. Aap ﷺ khoob roye.
Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Auf (RA) jo saath the, unho ne arz kiya: "Ya Rasool Allah ﷺ! Aap to humein musibat ke waqt sabr ki taleem dete hain, aur aap khud ro rahe hain?"
Darasal Sahaba ka ye sawal hamare liye tha. Sahaba sawal is liye karte the taake baad mein aane wali ummat ke liye masail wazeh ho jayen. Unhe Huzoor ﷺ ke faislay par koi aitraaz nahi tha.
Huzoor ﷺ ne farmaya: "Aye Abdur Rahman! Ye rona Allah Ta'ala ne apne khaas bandon ke dilon mein rahmat ke tor par rakha hai. Allah jiske dil mein rahmat rakhta hai, usi ko musibat ke waqt rona aata hai."
"Aye Abdur Rahman! Rona Shariat mein mana nahi hai. Rona, cheekhna, seena peetna aur ye kehna ke 'mera taaj kahan chala gaya, ab mera kya hoga, meri khabar geeri kaun karega' - is tarah ke jumlay kehna aur seena peet kar haalat banana mana hai. Lekin saaday aansoo bahana, is mein Shariat ki taraf se koi pabandi nahi hai."
